PRACTICAL USER INFORMATION
What you need to know
If you have a new car, you should follow any instructions
provided by the manufacturer which may specify a period
for running in on petrol.
After Conversion to LPG
You should notify your insurance company that an LPG system
has been fitted and also advise the DVLC in Swansea that
your car now runs on petrol and LPG.
Running on LPG
Once your LPG system has been fitted, your car will be able
to run on petrol and LPG. Please observe the following operational
procedures:
- It is important that the petrol tank is at least one
quarter full at all times in order to prevent any damage
to the petrol pump.
- Use petrol occasionally as it should not be left in
the tank for longer than three months as it may become
stale.
- Vehicles fitted with carburetors should be run petrol
at least once a week for 2-3 miles to keep the petrol
system operational.
- With petrol injected vehicle the engine will start on
petrol and automatically switch to gas if the control
switch is in the GAS position.
- With a carburetor system, if starting on petrol, start
the engine with the switch on the PETROL position. Once
the engine is running, move the switch to the CENTRAL
POSITION and continue to drive the car until the petrol
in the carburetor runs out. Then move the switch to the
GAS position.
- It is possible to start the car in the GAS position,
although a longer cranking period may be required.
Servicing
LPG systems need service and safety checks at least
every 6 months / 6,000 miles. Please ring for details.
Certificate of Conformity
We are LPGA Approved Installers, and as such are authorised
to issue a Certificate of Conformity on completion of a
conversion. It is hoped that this will be a significant
help in restricting the activities of the "cowboy”
element in our industry.
Insurance
You must inform your insurance company about the
conversion. However, if the conversion has been carried
out by a LPGA Approved Installer and the vehicle has a Certificate
of Conformity, there should not be any increase in premium.
